Waterhouse FC bounced back from their recent string of poor results to stun Montego Bay United (MBU) 1-0 in the St James team's first home game after Hurricane Melissa ravaged sections of western Jamaica during their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football match at Jarrett Park yesterday.

In front of an intense crowd, Waterhouse FC's Revaldo Mitchell scored the winning goal in the 35th minute to make MBU fans jittery.

The result leaves MBU still atop as league leaders with 24 points, accumulated with eight wins and six losses. Waterhouse jumped to sixth on 15 points, from five wins and nine defeats.

Captain of Waterhouse, Colorado Murray, said after the recent backlash from triple losses he is happy for the victory.

"Which team wouldn't be happy? You come to Montego Bay at the iconic Jarrett Park which has been out of use sometime now and spoil their fun," said Murray, who graded the team's performance as 100 per cent.

"Our recent loss against Spanish Town Police was a hard one to take for us," he said of the previous team's faltering against the bottom of the table team. "The community gave us a backlash so we worked hard for the three points. Thank God,"

LACKED FLUENCY

Meanwhile, Xavier Gilbert, coach of MBU said the team lacked fluency and patience.

"We didn't have the fluency that we are used to and would have liked and the surface didn't contribute to that. I thought we made hasty decisions and turned over the ball," analysed Gilbert.

"We really wanted something out of the game. Of course, three points was the objective. We have our challenges and are overcoming them step by step, no excuses," added Gilbert.

As it was the homecoming game for MBU, there were efforts to generate togetherness, which saw general admission free for fans. It was was the club's way to reconnect with their fans after the hurricane's passing.

WINNING RETURN

Meanwhile, in St Elizabeth, Treasure Beach FC, who were returning to the league after being forced out for almost two months because of the hurricane, beat Portmore United 2-0. Treasure Beach FC were given additional time to rebuild after Hurricane Melissa destroyed the parish.

Warmly welcomed by fans, Jhanni Flemmings opened the scoring in the 61st minute. And in the second half added time, Daniel Hardy hammered in an insurance goal.

The win put Treasure Beach 11th on 12 points after three wins, three draws and six losses. Portmore stayed third on 24.
