McKenzie expects death toll to rise after Hurricane Melissa

Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond McKenzie says the Government is expected to give an official update on the death toll from Hurricane Melissa later today.

"I've been hearing some stories that I don't want to repeat," McKenzie said during a media briefing on Thursday, noting that the police have not yet confirmed those reports.

He added that he expects the death toll to rise. So far, the Government has confirmed four deaths in St Elizabeth, while The Gleaner has been told of four more in Westmoreland.
